I generally judge my workout intensity by how badly my butt hurts when I walk up the stairs to my office the next day. That slight twinge of pain in my butt and thighs is a welcome feeling and I think it tricks my brain into thinking that even after one workout everything is so much firmer and tighter back there.

T and I went running Sunday. It actually felt very good even with some anticipatory nausea, but my legs and lungs both held out for a pretty standard run. This run however has been haunting my @ss for the past 3 days, each day hurting even worse… Ok, maybe not hurting, but there are things that have tightened up in my legs that make stairs an interesting study in Kinesiology.

So now the question is, do I run again and risk even tighter legs the next three days, or will it help loosen them up?

It’s finally finished, the never ending afghan… I ended up making 2 separate last minute trips to the yarn store to get enough yarn to finish it off. Edging takes up a lot more yarn that I had imagined!

So here’s how I had it finished off last night:

I snuggled with that most of these evening, just relishing in the fact that I had finally completed it. Soon the yarn store smell got old and I chose to wash it and this is how it came out of the laundry this morning:

That is such warm fuzzy felty goodness!

Here I sit in my post “Sushi Wednesday” sleepy haze, my allergies are doing me no favors, and the weather not doing anything for my allergies, I’ve been thinking…

It’s been over 4 years since the tornado and I really thought I was over it. Been there, recovered, rebuilt, and moved on… But getting coffee the other day I realized how I’m not really over it.

I saw the front page of some news paper and the photo was of a house torn apart nearly exactly like ours was. It was a long narrow ranch house missing a roof and a front wall exposing what was left inside to all of the world.

I nearly burst into tears. Just knowing how it feels to stand there and have no clue as to what you are supposed to do next…

And then this morning hearing a father’s account of a tornado… Breaking glass and slamming doors, then the crack of the roof all while he held on to his kids behind a door. It made my stomach turn.

I’d better get busy and put of dealing with this some more….

The Husband and I got a ton done this weekend! I would say that the Husband really got more done than I did… He built a wall in the basement, upgraded and relocated a sub panel, and ran a but of power outlets on dedicated circuits for both his workshop and my music room! I can’t help but feel pretty lucky that he’s so handy!

I got back to the bathroom tile this weekend.

A) I was tired of staring at the 5 tiles I hadn’t set in the shower due to the ridiculous cuts needed.

B) I was SUPER tired of my front porch looking like a trash heap with all my tiling refuse and supplies just sitting out there.

AND C) The Husband worked so hard on all the wood floors leading up to the bathroom, I figured I could at least finish the floors I was working on too.

Can you guess which tile almost hit me in the head when it fell off the wall? At least I was there or it may have hit the glass partition. I gladly take the bruised arm that I have over the cost of replacing that piece of glass!

I also finished up the floor. I feel this is way less exciting though, so no photograph.

I did do some work on my quilt this weekend. I’ve finished up the main wild portion of it and now I’m putting together the more subdued pieces of it. It’s a strange mix of bright orange “up and at’em” and a very calming blue tones. More to come on this later.

Lastly, I saw this little craft on Craft(zine).

Um… I really didn’t realize just how small these little guys were. They look kinda cuddly in the tutorial but in reality they are actually christmas ornament size. SUPER CUTE, but pain in the butt for sure. I had grand ideas of making a ton and giving to all the kids I know for Easter, but I’m quickly re-thinking that. To think I was concerned about running out of yarn!

The girl’s will be powder pink with the flower of course… The Boy’s will be black with and “x” for one eye. *sigh*

Kids #2 came down with the flu last night. She was babbling incoherently about losing all her teeth in the river… friendly dog sized tarantulas… and a tomato names Dr. Watson? Needless to say I was growing quite concerned and today I worked from home.

Now Kid #1 is having a major mathematical meltdown for which he is sure I am not equipped to help him with. *sigh* There are 2 things I will not tolerate tears over… One is homework and the other is video games. I will and do happily pay a tutor to keep the peace between us though…

So here I am working from home (it was a busy day too) with “Nearly-Crazy” and “Over-Emotional” and I’ve got this fun little project calling to me from about 4 feet away.

Yes! I’m 80 years old on the inside! But I can’t wait to finish it and put it to good use!

(oh, and how about those floors!)

4 years ago on March 1st a tornado blew through my life, and with my house and most or my belongings (sparing my family and I) it took every ounce of creativity I had.

I’ve felt it creeping back slowly since the move to the dome a year and a half ago, but lately it’s back with a vengeance. I don’t have enough time, money, and energy to keep up with everything I want to do or create with my own hands.

Here’s something that I started Saturday night. These are apparently called mood quilts. There’s no pattern, no rules… Just pick some colors, make strips, and sew them together at will. All the ones I’ve seen (well, all 3 or 4) have been in circular patterns, but after sewing some of the first bits together I’m thinking that straight bars would have be WAY easier and still pretty cool.

It’s really interesting to see what happens when you start to put it together. Man that orange is bright and what seemed really green in the store falls a bit shy of what I expected… I’m not sure if this quilt could have handled the green I saw in my head though, so maybe it’s a good thing.

Anyways this is my ‘one and a half day’ progress, and I’ve moved it all down to my future craft area.

It may not look like much just yet (being one corner of the basement) but when the walls are sealed, oak cabinets painted, power run to desk height, and the peg board is installed it’s going to be quite the set up. And only steps away I have access to an enclosed sand blaster and the full wood shop. I’ll be ready for any project!

I don’t get an office or even a desk anymore, so this is my little bit of square footage… Oh! And the space behind me in this photo is where I play music! That’s mine too. : )
